[It's not the call of the trees that wakes him. Nor the sound of someone actually speaking somewhere relatively nearby. No, instead it's the high-pitched noise of that damnable serpent that finally has him stirring.
It's only then that he notices the fact that there appears to have been a recent upheaval in the world's aether. A disturbance in the lifestream itself, for all that he would have considered that to be an occurrence very nearly so rare as to be almost unheard of. And yet, neither can he deny that it has happened, clear as day. Nor is it any great difficult to figure out why, when it takes but a moment to spot an unfamiliar individual.
And more relevantly, an unusual soul. Nothing at all like those of the Source of course, and still all too hollow as opposed to those that once were, but one nonetheless more... noticeable than those belonging to the rest of the shard's inhabitant. More weighty, for reasons as of yet unknown. Thus, the question becomes what to do next. It's certainly clear enough that this latest visitor has yet noticed his presence, though by the agitated state of the serpent also in attendance that might not last for much longer.
He considers, then, watching from his own perch. To answer would be to put any attempts to remain hidden in the shadows aside. And yet... there is something to be said for the simple - if often unspoken - currency of favors, and given the newness of this unexpected arrival a brief moment of information might well go far. Enough so that he does, finally, stretch and then saunter unhurriedly out into view.]
Oh, quite old, indeed. Though certainly not anything to do with any "Gaia".
[Pause.]
The natives of this forest call it "Rak'tika," if that should help.
